Why I Built ResumeTracker: 11 Months in the Fire

The candid story of an 11-month post-graduation job hunt, the broken tools that drained my wallet and mental health, and why I built an honest, all-in-one career platform starting at $9 a month.

The 11-Month Wall

In the summer after graduating, I believed the hardest part was behind me. I had the degree, the late nights, the internships, and the ambition. I thought finding a job was simply an equation: put in honest work, send out thoughtful applications, and land a role.

Instead, I spent the next 11 months in the fire.

If you have ever been unemployed or stuck in a prolonged job search, you know the exact psychological weight I am talking about. It is waking up at 8:00 AM to a fresh batch of automated rejection emails sent at 3:14 in the morning by an applicant tracking system that never even showed your resume to a human being. It is the creeping feeling that your hard work was invisible.

Worse than the rejection was the exhaustion of the process itself.

5 Tabs Open, Zero Progress

Every morning looked like this:

  1. Tab 1: LinkedIn / Indeed / Career Sites. Scrolling through hundreds of postings, trying to find roles that matched my skills.
  2. Tab 2: A Google Spreadsheet. Copying the job title, pasting the company name, copying the URL, guessing the salary range, logging the date.
  3. Tab 3: Workday / Taleo / Greenhouse Portals. Being asked to create my 38th separate account, upload my PDF resume, and then (in a display of pure corporate irony) manually re-type every single job, title, and date that was already sitting on that uploaded PDF.
  4. Tab 4: Legacy ATS Diagnostic Scanners. Pasting the job description into other resume scanning tools, only to be told I had used a word 4 times instead of 6, and that my 5 "free" scans were up unless I coughed up $49.95 every month.
  5. Tab 5: ChatGPT. Desperately copying and pasting prompts back and forth to re-write bullet points, hoping I did not lose my place in the spreadsheet.

My entire day was not spent having meaningful conversations with hiring managers or showcasing my abilities. It was spent tab-switching, copy-pasting, and managing spreadsheets.

I felt like an administrative clerk for my own unemployment.

The 4-Stage Candidate Loop

When I first set out to fix this problem, I built an early prototype called CraftedCV, focused purely on generating tailored resumes. But I quickly saw the flaw in my own thinking: an isolated resume builder was just another disconnected point-solution in an already broken chain. It still left me copying and pasting between five tabs, manually tracking applications in spreadsheets, and re-typing everything into Workday portals.

I scrapped the single-purpose tool and rebuilt the entire platform from scratch under the name ResumeTracker (and nothing else).

What job seekers actually need is not another isolated generator or an empty Kanban board. They need a closed, uninterrupted workflow: what I call the 4-Stage Candidate Loop.

[ 1. SEARCH ] ────────► [ 2. TRACK ] ────────► [ 3. TAILOR ] ────────► [ 4. APPLY ]
Side Panel Kanban CRM CAR-Method Active Pilot
   Clipping Pipeline Storytelling Local Autofill

Here is how each piece connects in daily practice:

1. Search (1-Click Side Panel Clipper)

You browse jobs on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, or company career pages like you normally do. But instead of copying and pasting text into a spreadsheet, you click the ResumeTracker Side Panel. In one second, it extracts the job title, company, salary range, location, and full job description into structured markdown. Zero tab-switching.

2. Track (6-Stage Application CRM)

Every saved job automatically populates your pipeline: Saved ➔ Applied ➔ Interviewing ➔ Offer Received ➔ Accepted ➔ Rejected. You can track interview rounds from 1 to 5, schedule automated follow-up reminders, and keep a timestamped milestone history for every application.

3. Tailor (The CAR Method)

Instead of robotic keyword stuffing (which recruiters hate and modern semantic ATS models ignore), ResumeTracker rewrites your real accomplishments using the Context-Action-Result (CAR) framework:

  • Context: The business obstacle or technical constraint you faced.
  • Action: The exact tool, architecture, or initiative you took.
  • Result: The quantifiable metric, revenue lift, or latency reduction you delivered.

You get resumes that speak the language of the hiring manager with authentic substance.

4. Apply (Active Pilot Local Autofill) — Coming Soon

Status: Groundwork laid, not yet released. The data architecture for step 4 is already built into the platform — your profile, work history, and tailored resume content are all structured and ready for automated form-filling. The Active Pilot autofill engine itself is on the roadmap for a future release. Steps 1 through 3 are the current focus.

When you finally hit that painful enterprise Workday or Greenhouse application portal, you should not have to spend 25 minutes retyping your history. Active Pilot is planned to run locally in your browser to assist with populating structured fields cleanly from your stored profile. Because all your structured data already lives in ResumeTracker from steps 1 through 3, the autofill engine will have everything it needs the moment it ships.

Transparent Pricing: Starting at $9/Month. No Hidden Traps.

When I started building ResumeTracker, my first rule was simple: never exploit the candidate.

  • No $50/month paywalls.
  • No $13/week billing traps.
  • No expiring top-up credits. Monthly plan allowances reset each billing cycle, but add-on credit packs (starting at 50 credits for $10) stay in your account permanently.

We offer a 100% Free Forever tier with 10 monthly AI credits and 20 job clips, zero credit card required. For active candidates who want full speed, paid plans start at an honest $9/month for the Starter plan (100 credits, 180 clips), scaling up to Pro at $29/month (380 credits, 1,500 clips) for heavy application sprints. Monthly plan allowances refresh every month. If you ever need extra runway, top-up packs (50 credits for $10, 150 credits for $30, or 400 credits for $80) never expire.

Candidate vs. The System

The corporate hiring system is exhausting. It is filled with opaque algorithms, repetitive forms, and detached automated rejections.

You cannot control whether an enterprise company takes 3 weeks to review your resume. But you can control your velocity, your mental health, and the quality of your applications.

I built ResumeTracker because I lived in the fire for 11 months, and I refused to let other candidates fight that fire empty-handed.

If you are in the middle of that grind right now: keep going. Streamline your process, protect your dignity, and let the software do the heavy lifting.
